The artworks that I would like to exhibit relate to the two newest publications, concerning the forest and the beings of the forest. It's a project that draws inspiration both from folklore and from speculative fiction. The pieces I want to show are a series of oil pastel drawings mounted in handmade wooden frames, and little carved, wooden figurines that are placed in and around the frames.

I work with lithography, drawing, text, photomechanical processes, and wooden objects to explore subjects related to ecology, poetry, and speculative narratives. I am interested in how fragments and collections can carry a story without giving away everything. The content of my publishing practice, which consists of zines, booklets and one-of artist books, is often based on the ideas presented in the text the Author of the Acacia Seeds by Ursula Le Guin. My work is inspired by natural history collections, expeditions into the unknown, obscure sciences and is an attempt to understand and explain all that is shimmering and strange in this world.

Andrea Bakketun is a visual artist working in video, installation, publications, guided tours and sculpture. Her works are located in the borderland between science and poetry, and are often ephemeral, kinetic and site specific. Research projects and collaborations are also important parts of her practice and she is currently part of the artistic research projects Simularr (AU) and Paviljong (NO). Bakketun obtained her MFA from the Academy of Fine Art in Oslo (2013). Previous solo shows include «A Guide for the Giant Body» at Centralbanken (Oslo), «Establishment and Maintenance…», Volt (Bergen), «Puck» at Kunstnerforbundet (Oslo), «Anthropology, Archeology, Apology» at Oslo Kunstforening and «Baklengs inn i okularet» at TSSK, (Trondheim).

In combination with my latest book "Den Gråeste Oldtid" (The Grayest of Areas) is also an installation with the same name. If available space, I would like to exhibit this. The installation is flexible, and can be down-scaled.

For over 10 years I have been working with the book as a way of approaching sight through tactility, and explore the idea of seeing with other senses. My books are a combination of (riso)printed larger editions and handmade, unique and sculptural works.

Recently my work also started to explore our relationship to nature - how nature shapes us and how we shape nature - looking into the past and present as well as into a speculative future.

I would like to exhibit a textile installation hanging from the ceiling if possible. The size of it will adjust to the location. It has never been shown before and it is produced in 2024. The team for the installation is identity and human strength through flexibility.

Hun arbeider med kombinasjoner av det konseptuelt, det poetiske og det taktile.

When we have done book tables in the past we have offered spruce tea or food, made some posters or collages to exhibit, decorated the table with Ogham divination sticks or banners and costumes from some of the performances and I thought I could do something similar here. Am currently working on carving a "primstav" so could sit and do that live in the space. Images are just examples/for illustration purposes, not to be public. 

'Treading the arboreal pathway through the backwoods of black metal'

Becoming the Forest is an arts and music publication which looks at the relationship we have to our surroundings. It is part of a long running arts project by Úna Hamilton Helle which is inspired by how the Northern hemisphere’s dense spruce forests defined the aesthetic and philosophy of the musical subculture of black metal. Since its inception in the late 80’s, the genre has become entangled with this topography through its imagery, mythology and lyrics. Its focus on the natural world, heritage and atmosphere forms the starting point for an exploration in zine form that stretches beyond the musical genre, resulting in a project that wishes to both highlight and counter the anthropocentric interpretation of the world.

Becoming the Forest 

I would be interested in a half table at most as I don't have that many publication copies with me in Oslo - most of the BTF IV stock is in the UK at the moment so I only have about 10 copies to sell here. 

I am sold out of most copies of II & III so I thought I could bring some along as reading copies and offer a very discounted price for PDF versions. 

More than anything it would be a great way to introduce the project to an Oslo audience (most of the books have been distributed abroad) and speak to people. 

Subject to Aligment was created for the group exhibition ΠΩΛΗΘΗΚΕ (SOLD) in Methonis 57-59 (Exarcheia, Athens), curated by Konstantinos Mouchtaridis. The exhibition addressed the recent rapid gentrification of Exarcheia and its impact on the neighborhood.

The shirt features the text ”The Street” from the book Species of Spaces and Other Pieces (1974) by Georges Perec. The text explores, among other things, how individuals relate to their constantly changing surroundings. The typography is adapted to the stripes of the shirt, and only selected parts of the text are visible to the reader. In this way, the text is not reproduced in its original form, but as a text collage, adjusted and tailored to the shirt’s form and design.

Our practice centers around the exploration of printed matter, tactility, and using language as a material in bookmaking. Through self-publishing, we explore how form, content, and process come together in creative expression.

Martinka Bobrikova (Norway/Slovakia) and Oscar de Carmen (Spain) have collaborated as an Oslo-based artist duo since 2005. Their practice examines social transformation at the crossroads of utopian visions and tangible realities, probing the dynamic relationships between economic systems and natural environments. Their projects—ranging from installations and sound works to site-specific and urban transformation pieces—explore alternative frameworks for work, community engagement, and political discourse.

Bobrikova and de Carmen's approach includes self-curation, self-publishing, and self-organization to foster critical thinking and alternative modes of interaction.

Camilla Pavlikova Sandland (b.1997) was born and raised in Tønsberg, and primarily works with text, photography and video. 

She graduated as a screenwriter from the Norwegian Film School in Lillehammer this summer, and has previously studied the writer's course at Johan Borup's Højskole (2018-2019) and "At skriva dramatik" at Biskop's Arnö Folkhögskola (2020-2021). 

Camilla wants to work with visual reflections on how upbringing and history lay the foundation for identity and self-image.

Chloé Malloggi (b.1999) is a French artist living in Bergen, Norway. Her work comes from an interest for paper and its language. Her projects take their final form as artist's books, prints, sculptural installations, or shapes in between.

Elisa Halvorsen Castillo (f. 1990) er en chilensk kunstner med norske røtter. Hun er basert i Oslo etter å nylig ha fullført en master i kunst og håndverk ved Kunsthøgskolen i Oslo. Ved å jobbe med analoge eksperimentelle teknikker og selvutgitte kunstnerbøker, utforsker Elisa begrepet hukommelse og dets plastisitet, et emne som interesserer henne siden hun opplevde korttidshukommelsestap på grunn av en sykdom i midten av 20-årene.

Franzisca Siegrist is a viusal artist born in Switzerland 1984, raised in Spain and lives in Oslo, Norway. She has a Masters in Fine Art and has worked professionally with performance art, installation, photography and video for the past 15 years. Siegrist  has shown work in Europe, Asia and America.

The questions she poses through her work are related to issues around belonging, migration, social norms, the environment and everyday life. Through these lenses, she invites the audience to reflect on how these issues impact specific facets of our society. Her performances are often physically demanding and highly visual. As a result, her works often evoke visuals that are both poetic and quite absurd.

Ettersom jeg kun har en bok kan jeg stå på fellesbord. Det kan være litt krevende for meg å stå der fra 11-17 og er derfor gjerne i dialog med andre utstillere om å dele opp "vakt" på fellesbordet.

Jeg ønsker å stille ut fotografiene til New Juche og Jukka Siikala samt andre fotografer vi har hatt med de siste utgavene (også norske). 

Gatevisa (literally «The Street newspaper») is Norway's oldest, radical, countercultural magazine. The first issue was published in 1970 by an anarchist community using an occupied building in Oslo as their editorial office. Since then Gateavisa has been Norway’s only wide-reaching publication rooted in anarchism. This makes it not only Norway’s oldest countercultural publication, but also one of the world’s oldest continuously published anarchist magazines.

The magazine covers everything from fine art, music and pop cultural matters to serious news topics and academic life. Historically it has been, and remains, one of the leading sources when it comes to providing a radical critique of the Norwegian society.

Gateavisa is known for its provoking satire and unorthodox styles of journalism, as well as its promotion and inclusion of short stories, poetry and underground comics. Society, culture and history have continuously been viewed through a radical non- affiliated lens rooted in the anarchist tradition. New subcultures and cultural expressions have often first been introduced to the Norwegian public through the pages of Gateavisa. Radical ideas and movements, national as well as international, have been presented and provided with context and history before being interpreted and critiqued. You will find interviews with whomever the staff finds interesting or funny.

This may be anyone from activists to criminals, local originals, freaks and vandals, but there will also be interviews with artists, writers and thinkers from both Norway and abroad.

The rejection of moralism and censorship has been a central aspect of Gateavisa since its founding. The publication has consistently been opposed to drug prohibition and any form of kink-shaming and oppression of sexual minorities, as well as to capitalism and authorities of all sorts, including most notoriously the police.

Gateavisa has always advocated in favour of prostitutes, S&M, pornography and porn actors, but against exploitation within the business.

Gateavisa was taken over by a new editorial staff and relaunched in 2017, after the historic offices in Hjelms gate 5 burned down three years earlier.

Halvor Rønning

Jim Særnblom (Oslo, 1977) is a writer and artist living in Oslo. He has a MFA from the National Academy Of Art. He made his debut as a writer with his book TRANS in 2022, exhibited in the National Museum of Art. Coming from the arts, Særnblom has a unique literary expression, creating a space of its own between short prose and poetry. As one of few Norwegian authors writing from a LGBTQ+ perspective he seeks to expand the language and break with stereotypical expectations of representation.

His art and writing often has a base in the same premise; the absurd language is the most fitted to express outsiderness. His art, whether literate or visual, is characterized as new but recognizable, fresh but also sick, in the sense that the world and humanity is sick.

KHiO biblioteket

Kari Steihaug work with installations and found objects, with time and perishability, history and crafts as central themes. Her starting point is textiles related to everyday life, both what remained incomplete and what has been in someone’s life for a long time, used and worn. Textiles as sensuality and carriers of memory, a place to explore the relationship between remembrance and expectation, the collective and the private, and the fragile and the substantial. Her interest is to highlighten the political and poetic aspects of textiles that have been in our lives for a long time.

Kathleen McIntyre ble født i 1962 i California og flyttet til Norge da hun var seks år gammel, hvor hun har bodd siden.  Hun har vært representert av Galleri Ramfjord i Oslo og har hatt utstillinger både nasjonalt og internasjonalt. 

Hun beskriver sitt kunstneriske uttrykk som en søken etter "å omskape det hverdagslige" – finne detaljer som kanskje er usynlige ved første øyekast, og flette de sammen til noe nytt bare utifra de omgivelsene og lagene som finnes der og da. På leting etter nye forbindelser som skaper harmoni mellom elementer som vanligvis ikke hører sammen. Disse detaljene smelter sammen og fanges i kameraet, uten dobbelteksponering eller annen manipulering. One shot blir dogmen.

Kathleen har nylig laget kunstfotoboken «Color Me Softly» utgitt av Kehrer Verlag i Tyskland som er et av Europas mest anerkjente kunstbokforlag. Boken er en samling av hennes fotografier fra de siste 15 år presentert i en gitt fargeskala. Bildene vises på en ukonvensjonell måte og utforsker nye tilnærminger til å lese et bilde, og en bok. Samtidig som de halve bildene kan betraktes som en utvidet form for diptych. Boken følger ingen lineær fortelling, men gjennom Kathleens  abstraherte og fargerike tolkninger av virkeligheten, formidler hun en særegenhet. Hvert bilde har en historie, et annet blikk og et perspektiv på det vi omgir oss med til daglig og det vi bærer med oss. Vi har alle våre erfaringer og en egen bagasje som vi bruker når vi ser og hva vi velger å se. «Med denne boken ønsker jeg å skape rom for refleksjon og utfordre fantasien». Hva ser du?

I would like to present works (photographs, collages, a sculpture and to coffin-carpets (silkscreenprint on canvas embroidered on linnen-cloth) related to my latest book Månesyk (Moonstruck, 2023).

Katja Høst (based in Oslo) got her degree from Bergen Academy of Arts and Design. Her work has been commissioned by osloBIENNALEN, the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences (NIH), as well as Litteraturhuset in Oslo. Public art projects by Høst have also been produced for public spaces like the Central station and suburban areas of Haugerud in Oslo. She is currently working on her fifth artist book; commissioned by LANDART Gjerdrum. The project will be exhibited at Fotografiens hus in Oslo the same year.

My upcoming book projet (to be published in 2025 at Uten tittel) include an eco-critique perspective, as the subject is related to the re-establishing of the landslide area in Gjerdrum after the landslide catastrophy in 2020. Showing works from that project would also work - however - since it is work in progress I dont have the available documentation yet. Please contact med for more info on this if of interest.

Billedkunstner Kim Andrè Hagens kunstprosjekt "ochtforlag" gir ut kunst bok kunst i svært begrensede opplag. Han er en svært kjent skikkelse i det Skandinaviske og Europeiske undergrunns kunst bok kunst og fanzine kunst miljøet. Han blir invitert verden rundt til en rekke absurde begivenheter de fleste mennesker ikke blir invitert til, men de fleste står han over for og holder seg hjemme i Oslo.

Fra tid til annen slår han til og representerer Norge i det internasjonale surrealistiske anarkistiske undergrunns kunst miljøet på grensen til de morsomste og farligste ytterpunktene av hva en kunst Oslomann bør havne i på en tur utenbys.

Lesbianas Concentradas is a newly launched publishing house founded by Alicia Luz Rodríguez and Cosima zu Knyphausen in Berlin. 

We aim to spotlight queer voices, and we are deeply invested in the mission of making and expanding the space that queer, trans and non binary writers take and hopefully  create a bridge between the global south and the northern hemisphere.

Lise Linnert is a visual artist and human rights activist.  A continuous thread throughout her artistic practice is her interest in relationships and a strong belief in the power of the hands. Through various media, she explores art as an entryway to dialogue and change. Linnert works along two parallel paths: one that is political and social, involving interdisciplinary collaboration and collective participation, and another that is personal, rooted in her own experiences. Her projects can span several years or have no end date. Whether working collectively or independently, the process is always essential to her work. Linnert has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally.

Margarida Paiva is a visual artist living in Oslo, and working with film, photography and installation. In 2007, Paiva completed her Master degree at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts (NO), and has earlier studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Porto (PT). Recent work is the outcome of a personal exploration into the mystical dimension of the natural world. It is inspired by folklore, fairytales and ancient myths, where Nature is frequently linked with the human psyche relating to the unconscious. Using references to ecofeminism, these works aim to investigate the intersections between gender, ecology, activism and spirituality.

Northing - Centre for East Asian Art and Culture is the first and currently only non-profit contemporary art centre focusing on promoting cultural exchange between Norway and East-Asia. 

Currently, Northing has three major functions: the exhibition venue Northing Space, the art book publisher and design studio Kinakaal, and the tiny art and design bookshop Elephanten.

Up to now (November 2024) Kinakaal has won four times in the Most Beautiful Norwegian Books for the Year competition and received multiple international design awards.

Vi ønsker å kombinere tidsskriftlansering med å vise objekter, tekstfragementer, dummier, skissebøker, poesi m.m. fra utviklingsprosessen hvor vi omgjorde Prosjektrom Helium til et redaksjonsverksted for kunstner-tidsskrift. Vi vil fokusere på den totale visuelle lesningen av kunstnertidsskriftet ved å gjenskape deler av denne prosessen. Vi vil stille ut veggavis, fotnoter, flyere, annonse, 

plexiplater som tidsskrift i japansk B5-format, ringperm med testprint, risoprint. Veggavisen har vært en dialog mellom fysiske objekter på gulv og ordspill/konkret poesi rett på vegg. Disse 16 oppslagene har vi overført til kalkerpapir. De vil presenteres som en bunke på bordet.

\ (pronounced backslash) is a new artist magazine (kunstnertidsskrift) in JIS B5 format. \ is the result of a collaboration called Helium EDIT, dedicated to the process of creating and establishing a regional artist magazine.

Issue #1 will be released at Kunstbok Oslo. Helium EDIT started as a dialog between Anja Bjørshol and Tor-Magnus Lundeby and developed into playful and object related process with editorial/artistic workshops at Prosjektrom Helium. We see our collaborative practice as both a free space in between established formats and a Østfold-based fanzine project which aims to focuse on art and related matters around us and amongst us - the relation between what surrounds us and what divides us. 

Issue #1 will be released at Kunstbok Oslo, combined with process material from two editorial/artistic workshops at Prosjektrom Helium earlier this year.

Mange beveger seg mot skulptur/installasjon/film.

Shwan Dler Qaradaki ble født i irakisk Kurdistan i 1977. Hele hans oppvekst var preget av krig og konflikt: Først Iran-Irak-krigen, deretter Saddam Husseins terrorvelde mot kurdere, og til slutt Golfkrigen og borgerkrig. Som 20-åring valgte Shwan å forlate familien for å kunne virke fritt som kunstner.

Shwan fokuserer i sitt kunstneriske arbeid på spørsmål om identitet og det å leve i en multikulturell virkelighet. Han bruker en rekke teknikker, som tegning, maling, foto, installasjon og video. Arbeidene hans belyser hvordan verden består av ulike perspektiver og utfordringene dette skaper i møtene mellom mennesker. Hans verk tar for seg noen av vår tids mest aktuelle samfunnsspørsmål, skildret gjennom et personlig og poetisk visuelt språk med en politisk undertone. En reflekterende og undrende holdning kjennetegner alle prosjektene, som forsøker å utvide vår forståelse av det å leve i dagens verden.

Shwan er kurder og kom til Norge som politisk flyktning i 1999. Hans kunstneriske prosjekter springer ofte ut fra hans personlige historie, men har også en universell relevans. I 2016 ga Shwan ut boken "Avstand" sammen med Mette Karlsvik på Spriten Forlag. Han har mottatt flere priser og stipender, inkludert Skien kommunes kunstnerstipend, Oslo Bys kunstpris, Norsk Kulturråds nykommerpris og Kistefos kunstpris.

Silje Iversen Kristiansen (b.1994, NO) processes human experiences and time. Primarily by the means of drawing and the sound of her voice.  In recent years, she has drawn forth the series 'Weekly Planner' where her daily life is continuously documented in drawings.

Multinational Enterprises is an artist-run platform dedicated to publishing, promoting, and collecting artists’ publications and related materials. Founded in 2012 by Sveinn Fannar Jóhannsson, Multinational Enterprises works in close collaboration with artists, designers, and writers to produce both in-house, small-scale publications and high-end editions. Regularly attending art book fairs and curating occasional exhibitions, Multinational Enterprises seeks to engage with a broad audience of artists' book aficionados.

Nina Mauno Schjønsby is a writer and freelance editor, and cofounder of Tekstbyrået forlag together with Halvor Haugen. She frequently works with public and private archives as a point of departure. Some recent publications are "Lyset i flatene. I arkivet etter Harriet Backer" in collaboration with Hedevig Anker (Uten tittel 2021), the anthology "Kvisten på grenen, grenen på treet: Unge Kunstneres Samfund 1921–2021" in collaboration with UKS and Halvor Haugen (Press 2021), the artist book "Kokebok for indigosoler. Bente Sætrang" (Uten Tittel, 2023) and the book "Gi meg alt hva du kan. Forloren Skildpadde av Camilla Collett og Emilie Diriks" (IGWTLI Publishing & Tekstbyrået forlag).

Terje Abusdal (b. 1978) is a visual artist with a background from the KMD Academy of Fine Arts in Bergen and the Danish School of Media and Journalism in Aarhus. He has published several photo books: Radius 500 Meters (2015), Hope Blinds Reason (2019), and Costa Bravo Holiday Paradise (2024) with Journal in Sweden, as well as Slash & Burn (2018) with Kehrer Verlag in Germany. In 2020, Hope Blinds Reason won the award for Norway’s Most Beautiful Book. Terje has exhibited his work nationally and internationally, with showings at Bergen Kunsthall, Preus Museum, the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen, and Mattatoio di Roma.

In 2010 Mette Edvardsen started the performance project Time has fallen asleep in the afternoon sunshine, in which a group of people dedicate themselves to memorizing a book of their choice. Together they form a library of ‘living books’. The readings take place as intimate one-to-one encounters where the ‘book’ recites its content for the ‘reader’. Since then, the project gradually grew to where it is today: a library, a bookshop, a publishing house, over 130 living books in 20 different languages across Europe and beyond, workshops, an exhibition format, lectures and talks. And underlying all this is an ongoing practice of making time to memorize and read out loud to each other and visiting readers.

Topos Bokforlag is a non-profit, artist publishing initiative started in 2017 by Arild Våge Berge and Åsne Eldøy. Topos Publications want to serve as a platform for publishing artistic projects and artist books, and to express a diversity of practices through the book format. Topos means place, and as publishers we want to mobilize concepts of place through printed matter.

Varamo Press embraces the unexpected and values the arbitrary circumstances in which writing comes into being. Snatching, wording, printing, it gives a paper form to various kinds of literature that have a fleeting life elsewhere.

Varamo Press is an artist-run, independent publishing house founded in 2018 by Mette Edvardsen and Jeroen Peeters. It takes inspiration from César Aira’s character Varamo, a clerk whose chance encounter with a trio of publishers in a bar inspires an unlikely collaboration that yields a masterpiece of experimental literature. ‘The time had come to reap the benefits of his inveterate, impractical habit of holding on to every piece of paper that came into his possession. He need only copy his notes out, string them together somehow, and allow them to form a book.’

In 2022 Varamo Press launched the series Gestures, small format books that come with a grey cover and a unified design. The series experiments with the essay genre and provides a platform for shorter texts we’d like to make available for wider readership and unexpected encounters. Gestures include commissioned essays as well as translations, reformulations and yet other alternative editions of existing material.

Each book having its own mind and gravity, Varamo Press develops publications on a case-by-case basis with the care they require. We collaborate with various partners to produce and distribute our books. The income from book sales is invested in future publication projects.

Varamo Press is based in Brussels and Oslo. Mette Edvardsen and Jeroen Peeters are the editorial team, assisted by regular collaborators working behind the scenes on graphic design, copy-editing, website, distribution and administration: Michaël Bussaer, Patrick Lennon, Cillian O’Neill, Heiko Gölzer, Hedvig Bergem Søiland and Norma Traversini.

Varamo Press

Vibrational Semantics focuses on the elaboration, documentation and investigation of the voice. The publications and sound works in the series explore the voice’s ability to shift seamlessly between signification and sonority, from speech sound to noise. Questions of linguistic ambiguity, embodied voicing and the feeling/ meaning are investigated in relation to the place and presence of the performed voice. So far, this has included visual scores, creative essays, interdisciplinary writing and sound works commissioned from artists, writers, performers and vocalists.

The project started as part of artist and writer Samuel Brzeski’s ongoing artistic engagement with Lydgalleriet, who funded the first series of commissioned text works, but is now an independent press run by Samuel.

TEXST is an art collective and publishing press based between Bergen, Norway and Helsinki, Finland.

We explore the presence of text in visual art in all of its manifestations. Our title, TEXST, embodies our approach – testing text-based work in any and all forms. Up to this point, this has consisted of workshops, residencies, and a series of collective and individual publications.

TEXST was established in 2016, and is currently Samuel Brzeski, Lucila Mayol, Robin Everett, and Pedro Riva.

For or latest presentations of our new book, "The Anthropocene Laboratory" We have printed out some of the images from the book to create a feeling as if you plunge into this image world, as if you take a bath in the book. This can be made as a threedimentional installation (as we did in Slipvillan, Stockholm) or as an image cluster on a wall (as we did at Arizona State University during a conference) Or even at a screen or partition-wall (as we did at Kragerö Library during the festival of philosophy)

It would be fun to make an installation or a cluster specially for "Kunstbok Oslo", big or small as you like it.

284 Publishers is a non-profit artist run publishing company specializing in interdisciplinary publications where visual art, academic essays and poetic texts join forces to invigorate thinking about nature, animal rights and social justice. Under the name Club Anthropocene, we even arrange art shows, outdoors excursions, reading circles and theme nights.
