MAPS KHiO Art & Public Space

Oslo

The Master program in Art and Public Space at the National Academy of the Arts will showcase publications emerging from a course investigating the artist book as a critical and poetic tool.

Exhibiting artists include

Maja Kristina Bakken, Mohammed Bashir, Hussein Mikal, Diego Rojas Bøckman, Chen Cai, Bjørn-Kowalski Hansen, Nicolai Risbjerg Møller-Nielsen, Lars Kasper Gustav Nihlmark, Reidun Solvik, Jomi Solheim, Marea Vigesaa and Piotr Chrzanowski.

Throughout the course, we have engaged with artist books historically and politically, asking what kinds of urgencies, if any, shape them, and how their fragmentary, portable, and often ambiguous nature offers space for resistance, reflection, and disruption today. Along the way, we have drawn on strategies ranging from Dada to postmodernism, and explored how constraints—rules, schemes, and scores—can both enable and destabilize.
