Sander
Jørund Aase (b. 1978, Stavanger, Norway) is an artist working experimentally and contemplatively using various media.
Seeking an impure, frugal beauty, coincidences of material and biological processes often play a decisive role.
Non-traditional materials are often used, such as thermoplastics and bacterially grown cellulose, as well as wood, reclaimed materials and found objects. The works can often be characterized by a dystopic mood, reflecting on the fragility of human civilization, at the same time encompassing humor and a life-afirming wonder at the world’s mysterious existence.
An artist book presenting a selection of art works made between 2004 and 2024, accompanied by a manifesto-like essay and diagrams pointing towards the artist's foundation for making art.
